Loss or theft of your Belgian identity document
What should I do if an official document is lost or stolen?
If your Belgian identity card, passport or residence permit has been lost or stolen, block it immediately. Call DOC STOP on 0800/2123 2123 or 00322 518 2123 (available 24/7). This service allows you to block your identity documents immediately and free of charge and thus avoid any fraudulent use. (Please note: only for Belgian identity documents). A letter confirming the loss or theft will be sent to you.
BELGIAN identity document (identity card, passport, residence permit)
If your identity card is lost or destroyed, go to the "Population" department of your municipal administration.
If your identity card is stolen, make a statement to the police.
FOREIGN ID Documents
Report the loss or theft of your ID card or passport to the police.
SHAPE Member
Protocol ID card and SHAPE ID card:
In the event of loss or destruction, you go directly to the Registration Office (building 210) to report the loss or destruction of these documents.
In the event of theft, first report it to the SHAPE Federal Police who will issue you some attests. Secondly, you will present yourself, by bringing the police attests, to the Registration Office to start the process of renewing your documents.
