In Mons, the rehabilitation of the Obourg bridge, supporting the E42-E19/A7 lanes and overlooking the R5a and Avenue Benoîte, will begin in the first half of April. During this work, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction on the E42-E19/A7 at the level of the bridge only for light vehicles. In order to maintain maximum mobility, heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes will be diverted via the R5a and interchange no. 22 "Obourg".
Construction schedule:
- Directions Mons to Charleroi: April 2025 - December 2025
- Directions Charleroi to Mons: March 2026 - December 2026
The 2025 project:
Light vehicles travelling on the E42/E19-A7 towards Charleroi will be switched to the other half of the bridge, which usually handles traffic to Mons. Users will use the central and left lanes, with a maximum speed limited to 70 km/h.
Heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes travelling on the E42/E19-A7 motorway towards Charleroi will have to take a diversion set up via exit 22 "Obourg", then Rue d'Obourg and the R5a in order to return to the motorway via the "Mons-Est" access.
