The Centre for Cyber Security Belgium is launching with its partners, including the Federal Police, its new campaign to make citizens the strong links in cybersecurity via two-factor authentication. Herstappe was chosen to launch the movement. Who will ultimately be the safest municipality in Belgium?

The Centre for Cyber Security Belgium presents its new Safeonweb campaign

"We're tired of hearing that people are the weakest link in cybersecurity. We want it to be the strong link," begins Phédra Clouner, deputy director general of the Centre for Cyber Security Belgium (CCB).

In charge of raising awareness among the population as a whole, as well as large companies and authorities, the CCB presents its new Safeonweb campaign. It focuses on two-factor authentication. A terminology known but not yet applied by all. "According to our survey, 71% of those questioned know the name and only 55% of those over 65. Of all those surveyed, 55% really know what it means," explains Cathy Grimmeau, Communication Officer at the CCB.

While the CCB's last campaign also focused on two-factor authentication and was a great success in 2020, the concrete results have not lived up to expectations. "Half of the population saw the campaign, it was very popular. But only 8% of people have looked for information about two-factor authentication and told their friends and family about it and 4% have installed it on at least one of their accounts... ", regrets the communicator.

The CCB has therefore decided to relaunch a campaign aimed at the population. "We want all Belgians to activate two-factor authentication and we have decided to take action by mobilizing the citizens and the political world of the municipality of Herstappe (the least populated in Belgium, with language facilities, editor's note) and to show that it is not difficult to be the most secure in Belgium. So, who will be next? Safeonweb says.
