Rates of speeding fines

Speeding (fines are calculated on the basis of the corrected speed):

In built-up areas, near schools, in 30 zones, residential or meeting areas:

  1. From 1 to 10 km/h: 53 €
  2. From 11 to 30 km/h: €53 + €11 per additional km/h.
  3. More than 30 km/h: Referral to court (decision to be taken by the public prosecutor)

On the other roads:

  1. From 1 to 10 km/h: 53 €
  2. From 11 to 30 km/h: €53 + €6 per additional km/h.
  3. More than 30 km/h: Referral to court (decision to be taken by the public prosecutor)

Example: 67 km/h in built-up areas (= 61 km/h in corrected speed) = 53 € + (1 x 11 €) = 64 €

  1. The rates mention the minimum amount (immediate collection or transaction). In certain circumstances, other penalties may apply.
  2. When the offender refuses to pay or for certain offences, the case is brought before the Police Court. The latter can impose a fine of a different amount and a disqualification from driving (+ legal costs and, possibly, a contribution to the Victims' Assistance Fund).
  3. For certain offences, the public prosecutor's office may immediately withdraw the licence.
