Do you always have to call the police in a car accident?

In general:

If there are no injuries and the damage is not too extensive, the parties can fill in the European Accident Statement themselves, sign it and send it to their respective insurance company.

If there is a disagreement, you can be assisted by the Police.

In the event of significant damage and/or injury, you should always call the Police.

On the spot, the police officers draw up the report, the circumstances of the accident and give a breathalyzer test to the drivers.

SHAPE member involved:

The fact that a member of SHAPE is involved does not change the way of proceeding except for the language barrier.

In the MONS region, the DAP SHAPE can provide language assistance to citizens and police forces in the event of an accident involving a SHAPE soldier or a member of his family.

Official SHAPE or foreign military vehicle involved:

For ease of use, call the police and specify when you call that a vehicle of the official SHAPE (license plate, black background, starting with CHB) or a foreign military vehicle is involved. The police call-taker can then ask a team from the DAP SHAPE to come to the scene.
